Recently a proposed marriage was stopped by the brides side. The reason given was the bride wanted to be taken out by the bridegroom before marriage and it seems he refused telling it is not common in their family.What a silly reason.We have to think where we Tamilians are going and is there anything to be proud of our so called culture.Think of the parents of the bride.The betrothel was over two months ago.They are not at all bothered about the girls future .Where are we going?

Obesity,the problem of modern women

In the busy modern world,women face the problem of obesity. They want to be slim and healthy.They go for a walk, go to gym ,eat less and so on.It is of no use. In ancient days there were joint families, many children, and so lot of work done by women.There were no grinder, mixer ,washing machine, vacuum cleaner etc,etc.Women used to get up early in the morning, and did all the works by themselves,no men helped them .Instead of sweeping the floor women do some exercises in the gym paying money,and wasting time.So let us go back to our basics and live happily.

New year is near.

We have spent ten months and entered eleventh month of 2008. What have we achieved during this period?It is time for analysing our activities and correct them if necessary.Have we fulfilled all our new year resolutions?Have we forgotten them?Anyway, it is not too late now.Let us try to achieve what we have not so far.Let us make use of our remaining days usefully and be prepared to welcome the new year.

We read in newspapers everyday about bomb blasts,earthquakes, floods and terrorism.Recently we read about Big Bang experiment,and people are living with fear and uncertainity.In Orissa , churches are burnt, many innocent people are driven into forests, many have lost their houses and belongings.Many are hungry,hiding for their lives.Why all these things?We are nearing the end of this world. End time happenings must warn us to prepare ourselves for eternity.The Lord is coming again to reward His people and punish others.Let us be prepared to meet Him.

The proverb warns us to be careful in our words and deeds.Some think that their words are not so important, but I tell you they are the most important.God says that we should not take revenge on anybody who does any harm to us, He will look after His children.This is my experience in many occasions.Sometimes, people may hurt us with their words.Keeping quiet at that time is very difficult to ordinary people.But God"s children know that nothing happens to them without His permission.So they have peace of mind.They see with their own eyes how God takes revenge for them.That doesn"t mean that we are cursing them. If they do it intentionally ,God will not allow His children to suffer from it.So be relaxed and see how God works .

True to God?

Many of us are not really true to God. He wants us to be true in our hearts.Most of us are not so.We are not true to God or man.He wants us to speak from our hearts. But we pretend to be loving and kind-hearted in our words but our actions are different. We read the Bible, pray to God,go to church and even going for gospel work.When we have to be true in our relationships, we are not able to do so. Let us examine our behaviour,and change it too with His help.Then only we are true to Him and make Him happy.

God"s Kingdom.

When Jesus Christ was living in this world,He said that first we must seek the kingdom of God,and every thing will be added unto us.God"s kingdom is not mere material prosperity. Many rich people are not enjoying peace in their lives. To have real peace, we must read the Word of God every day, we must pray for His guidance,in every walk of life.Without God, our life will be a chaos.God"s kingdom is not eating and drinking alone.It is more than that. It gives real meaning to life.Let us live a meaningful life and build God"s kingdom.

Old age.

Many people feel unwanted in their family, just because they are old.If you are a sensible person, it is not so. Recently, I was reading a book about getting old.The author rightly puts it this way.Making oneself freely available to others will prove to be exciting sources of joy.The old people should think that they are strong enough to guide younger ones.They must be young in spirit.They can help if they feel healthy. Some old people suffer from imaginary sickness.Young people must understand the old people and try to respect them.

Hello,my dear married women, I would like to say a few words to you.If you are hurt , try to correct yourself. Do you really love your mother _in_law as you love your own mother? Just try to do so and then you will realise what a lot of blessing you missed because of not loving her .When she is sick, you just sit near her and listen to her complaints.This will make her love you more and bless you more.Some of you may murmur that you are doing all things for her,but she needs only your care and affection. And nothing more than that.Will you try to do so please ?

The title is easy to understand but very hard to practise. When Jesus lived in this world, He practised what He preached. We call ourselves His followers,but are we like Him? Definitely we are not.When we come across situations which affect our self respect,we must remember our saviour who is our role model.Just think about how He tolerated all tortures, all insults,and all humiliation.When we compare our situations with His, we will forgive,and also forget .What we have to do is, we must sit calmly, and analyse the things.We are God's children and we must be different in our reactions. Then we will find no reason to get angry with anyone who insulted us.God will take revenge of the people who disturbed us. I used to think of my favourite verse,"Let me be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind."You may also try this.

It is very difficult to be humble.Jesus Christ when He was living in this world,on the day of His crucifiction,He was humiliated by the soldiers of Rome.They beat Him, spit on His face,whipped Him, teased Him,and so on.

We talk of accidents often and sometimes we meet with accidents.How is our reaction? We must not be nervous, we must decide what to do next?Some are much scared and worried about things which did not occur to them. Fear will worsen things. Let us be calm in our actions and also decisions.

What is Lent?

Christians observe forty days as lent days before they celebrate Easter. Lent means spring season.During this season, the trees give out new twigs and it is beautiful to look at the green new leaves .In the same way we are supposed to give up all our bad habits and put on fresh ones. So lent is a period of transformation in us. So let us begin a new life from this day.

Womens Day.

It is a pleasure we have a special day to celebrate as womens day. We talk about freedom of women, equality with men ,social evils against women etc, etc, etc. But do women of today do their duty properly? Definitely NO. Ask me why?They simply forget that they are the makers of their homes. Money is not a criteria in most of the families today. They neglect their duties to their husbands, children, and even aged parents in law. Once India had a tradition that women took care of the home and all domestic works were done by them, and they were quite content in their family life. Now that tradition is at stake. and we are slowly losing happy homes in India.Let us take a pledge to regain them now.

We live in this world .God created this world and saw that everthing was good. In the garden of Eden ,Adam and Eve were happy , walking around ,admiring nature,talking with God, till the fall of man .They ate the forbidden fruit and they were chased out of the garden of Eden, and there started every problem. Man became restless, started worrying about his safety , food and shelter. Now ,in this modern world also,man is so busy that he lost his happiness. Money alone cannot make a man happy. We must spare our time for our family ,and make our life meaningful and joyful.

Human life is precious.We have a family. We have friends. We work with colleagues,who co operate with us. We differ from animals in having common sense. Not only that ,we have a special gift, that is laughter .But people dont laugh when they have to .I saw some people in a park when I went for a walk. They stand in a circle and laugh at nothing. They do it as an exercise. What a pity. Life is given to us to enjoy and be useful to our fellow men. Laugh and be merry and make life meaningful.

A friend of mine is sixty two years old and retired from service .She is so much attached to her daughter who got married recently . She went to be with her and her husband who is sixty five years old is all alone in his house . Many people are like this . They dont want to part with their children even after their marriage .They dont realize oneday they have to leave the stage as Shakespeare puts it . We dont know when we will leave this world forever . So we must be ready to be detached from the bondage of our relationships in this world and be prepared to meet our eternal life .

What a wonderful life it is.God created humanbeings and asked them to be masters of all creations.But man disobeyed His command and sin came into this world.The result was Adam and Eve were driven away from the garden of Eden. India is known for it's joint family system. Parents,grandparents,children,grandchildren lived together and the families also were large families.So more than ten people were living together.The ladies in the joint family learnt adjustment.Nowadays the only son of a family lives in a separate house with his wife.Even a small comment from her own husband is not tolerated by a wife.Separation is very common in India now. Women should learn to be patient to make their lives happy.They must keep safe the Indian tradition.
